Student authentication is required for all of the major music streaming services like Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube Music. Apple has discreetly increased the price of Apple Music’s student tier in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, according to a 9to5Mac reader’s tip.

Rates in the United States and Canada will rise from $4.99 to $5.99, and in the United Kingdom they will rise from GBP 4.99 to GBP 5.99. As recently as a few weeks ago, Apple Music’s student plans in various countries in Africa, Asia, and Oceania increased in price.

There will still be a $4.99 charge for Apple’s Music Voice Plan. Apple Music can only be accessed on an Apple device by asking Siri to play a track. Individual and family subscriptions to Apple Music are still available for $9.99 and $14.99, respectively.

We wouldn’t be surprised if Apple’s competitors, Spotify and YouTube Music, raise their student pricing now that Apple has done so.
