For those planning a trip by bike, the new cycling directions feature in iOS 14 is a valuable resource. Bike paths, inclines and stairs are just some of the features that make it easier for cyclists to get about.

A fan of Apple Maps, Justin O’Beirne, has written a blog entry on the new feature. The cities that have been added include:

  • Detroit, MI
  • Indianapolis, IN
  • Cleveland, OH
  • Columbus, OH
  • Cincinnati, OH
  • Charleston, SC

All of Ohio and West Virginia, as well as portions of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Virginia, are now included in the revised riding instructions.

This is the next step in Apple Maps’ introduction of bike routes. Apple made them available to customers in the Northeastern United States on April 1, 2022.

As a result, O’Beirne saw that Maps’ bike growth was strongly linked to its mapping advancements. He predicts that bikers in Texas and around the Gulf Coast will soon have access to more in-depth information.

It’s been a long time since the introduction of Apple Maps, yet the service continues to expand and get more attention. Apple will add 3D landmarks and improved navigation to its map of urban Canada by the end of March 2022.

There have been reports of teams in the UK walking about with cameras attached to backpacks in March.
