Apple M2 chip reportedly to launch at tomorrow’s Apple event ‘Peak Performance”

There is a possibility that Apple’s M2 processor may be shown soon.

Signs of M2 Apple Silicon Chip Reported Ahead of Apple Event on Tuesday

Tomorrow, March 8, is the day of the next major Apple event, and there’s a decent chance that some new Apple silicon will be unveiled. With claims that Apple is presently testing its new M2 CPUs ahead of the presentation, this seems more realistic than ever.

“Power on” newsletter author Mark Gurman of Bloomberg says as much. Using a “development source,” Gurman claims to have learned that Apple is now testing a new processor. In addition, this chip has been tested on many Mac Macs running different unannounced macOS releases and features an 8-core CPU and 10-core GPU.

It contains four efficiency CPU cores and four high-performance cores, according to Gurman’s source. According to Gurman, these are the same specifications he provided for the M2 last year, implying that this is the M2 and not a completely different model.

Speculation has said that the M2 processor will be more powerful than the M1 while using less power. It’s because the original M1 chip delivered just that when it launched in late 2020.

The M1 was a considerable leap forward in terms of performance and battery life over prior Macs powered by Intel CPUs.

It is, however, expected to be less powerful than the M1 Pro and M1 Max CPUs. They’re meant for power users rather than the typical MacBook user, so it’s not surprising that they’re referred to as “expert silicon.”

In comparison to the M1’s 5nm, the M2’s chip is expected to be smaller, at 4nm, and the Pro and Max versions are expected to be released within the next 12-18 months.

So, where might we expect to see the M2 in the near future? So far, the M2 processor has been said to be coming to the MacBook Pro 2022 and MacBook Air 2022 refreshes.

Since tomorrow’s Apple event is called “Peek Performance,” it’s conceivable that one or both of them may be shown in a flash of brilliance in less than a day. However, rumour largely points to their not being released until later this year, potentially in the autumn. Either way, the answer will be revealed soon. Source
