Apple is working on a “Mac Studio,” which it describes as a hybrid between a Mac Mini and a Mac Pro

An anonymous source with knowledge of Apple’s intentions tells 9to5Mac that the company is working on a “Mac Studio” gadget that looks like a hybrid of a Mac Pro and Mac mini.

Apple reportedly developing new Mac Studio — Everything we know so far

While the Mac mini and Mac Pro are expected to be released in the near future, this new item is “in addition” to them. One version will have “far more powerful hardware,” while the other is being developed in two different directions. This year’s MacBook Pro models will both feature the M1 Max processor, which will be replaced by a new Apple silicon chip that is more powerful than the M1.

Previously, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman predicted a new Mac Pro model with a smaller chassis to be marketed alongside the bigger Mac Pro model, and it seems like the “Mac Studio” might be that smaller Mac Pro model.

Gurun indicated that the smaller Mac Pro will feature up to 40 CPU cores and 128 graphics processing units (GPU cores).

Even though Apple’s internal codename for this machine is “J375,” 9to5Mac claims it is intended at professionals and will be marketed with a 7K “Apple Studio Display” the company is also developing.

There’s no indication on when the Mac Studio will be released, but previous reports have indicated that it would be shown at WWDC and then be on sale in the autumn of the year. source
