This year, Adyen, the global financial technology platform of choice for top companies, is collaborating with Apple on a tap-to-pay feature for iPhone consumers in the United States. Adyen’s U.S. clients may now take contactless payments using their iPhones, eliminating the need for any extra hardware or payment terminals to be purchased or managed. Lightspeed Commerce and NewStore are partnering with Adyen to deliver the service to a wider range of clients. To test the new functionality, NewStore will work with its client Vince and Adyen.

All of Apple’s greatest iPhones, including the iPhone 13 and as far back as the iPhone XS, can now process contactless payments without the need for extra hardware, making the phone itself a payment terminal for consumers.

There’s little doubt about it: Jona Georgiou, Lightspeed Commerce’s senior vice president of payments and financial services, described the offering as a “big gain” for its American clients.

Adyen’s COO, Kamran Zaki, said that offering Tap to Pay on the iPhone made sense since it would make the checkout process even easier for consumers.

In February, Apple introduced Tap to Pay, which is now available in iOS 15. “Apple Pay empowers millions of US merchants, from small businesses to huge retailers, to utilise [their] iPhone to easily and securely accept [other digital wallets] by a simple touch to their iPhone,” the company claimed at the time.
