Chevrolet’s new EV truck, the Silverado EV, joins the crowded field of electric trucks.
The 2024 Chevy Silverado EV was first shown by Chevrolet at CES 2022 earlier this year. It will ultimately join the Ford F-150 Lightning, Rivian R1T, and Tesla Cybertruck in the fast expanding electric truck sector.

During the event, Chevrolet revealed all the specifications of its vehicle, including cost, estimated range, highest speed, maximum towing capacity, and of course, the all-important range. In addition, this vehicle will include a slew of high-tech amenities, much like any other electric vehicle. Four-wheel steering, a large 17-inch touchscreen display, and Super Cruise driving assistance are all included.

Chevrolet Silverado EV: Release date and price
The 2024 Chevy Silverado EV will cost six figures when it goes on sale. Chevy will unveil its RST First Edition vehicle in the spring of 2023, delivering its longest-range battery, with a range of around 400 miles. A starting price of $105,000 will be included in that range, in addition to any extra destination costs.
This model, on the other hand, was sold out within 12 minutes of reservations starting, so don’t hold your breath. However, the Silverado EV isn’t done yet.
After the RST First Edition is on sale, more versions will begin making their way to dealerships. The WT, RST, Trial Boss, and other models are included. Costs will begin at $39,900 before rising from there. More expensive trims will have MSRPs in the $50,000 to $80,000 range.
General Motors claims to have received over 110,000 bookings for the Chevrolet Silverado EV so far. It’s apparent that the American public has a strong desire for electric trucks.
A $100 refundable deposit is required for these bookings, but they’re still available. The reservation fee is merely $100, but all purchases must still be made at a Chevrolet dealership.
On the company’s website, Chevy does say “Vehicle delivery cannot be guaranteed in advance by making a reservation. The dealer sets the final price.” If demand is great enough, a dealership may be able to mark up a $39,900 Silverado EV. Hopefully, GM follows Ford’s lead and threatens to punish dealerships who attempt to rip off consumers.

The 2024 Chevy Silverado EV: Power and performance.
Compared to other electric vehicles, the 2024 Silverado EV is a monster in terms of performance. Six hundred and sixty-four horse power and seven hundred and eighty lb-ft of torque are available. For such a large vehicle, GM believes that the new Chevy Silverado can go from zero to 60 mph in only 4.5 seconds.
The maximum trailering weight is 10,000 pounds, and the payload is up to 1,300 pounds. The RST model is used in these calculations.
The entry-level WT model is geared for fleet clients. Buyers of this model will receive 510 horsepower and 615 lb-ft of torque, respectively. The WT model can pull 8,000 pounds and carry 1,200 pounds. “After initial introduction, Chevrolet will produce a fleet model with up to 20,000-pound maximum trailering with the maximum tow package,” said a statement from the automaker.
With its e4WD technology, the RST First Edition trim will be equipped with front- and rear-drive motors. Additional features include four-wheel steering, variable air suspension, and a Multi-Flex midgate for increased luggage space. Tighter turning radii and improved cornering performance will be made possible by the four-wheel steering system.
Trailer hitch provisions, an integrated trailer brake controller and Hitch Guidance will be included in both the RST and WT variants. Advanced Trailering System will be included in the RST version of Chevy’s vehicle.
The battery and range of the Chevy Silverado EV for 2024
The 2024 Chevy Silverado EV comes in a variety of grades, but all are based on GM’s Ultium Platform, which is specifically intended for electric vehicles. The “fundamental construction” of the RST First Edition includes a 24-module Ultium battery pack. Unfortunately, the size of the battery pack for the Silverado EV was not disclosed by Chevrolet.
The RST and WT variants will have public DC fast charging available at speeds of up to 350 kW for charging purposes. According to Chevrolet, a full charge will provide a 100-mile range in only ten minutes.
The 10 receptacles on the Silverado EV allow owners to power additional items, resulting in a total output of 10.2Kw. With the help of the included supplementary charging wire, the Silverado EV can really power up another electric vehicle.
There will be some extra charging benefits for RST owners. Ultium Charge 360, “intended to ease the complete charging process, including access to more than 100,000 publicly accessible charging ports in the United States and Canada,” would be available to them.
The design and inside of the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV
An electric pickup truck that stands out from the rest of the pack is the Silverado EV of 2024. A low coefficient of drag was still necessary for best fuel efficiency.
To cut down on drag and turbulence, the front part of the vehicle has been reshaped, as revealed in a Chevrolet news statement. A low drag coefficient is one of Silverado EV WT’s advantages over other production full-size pickup trucks.

With an eTrunk, a “lockable, waterproof container” big enough to accommodate a hardside luggage and a variety of add-ons for fleet and retail clients, the front will be fitted.
With the help of the Multi-Flex Midgate, the 5-foot-11-inch-long bed can be expanded to a full 9-feet between the cap and the tailgate.
The centre dash will have a 17-inch diagonal touchscreen display and an 11-inch driver instrument panel. Keyless entry and start are also on the way.
Silverado EV in the year 2024: advanced driver aid systems and unique options
GM is working on its own version of self-driving technology in order to compete with Tesla. Chevrolet says it’s the first “truly hands-free driver-assistance technology” with Super Cruise, which is included in the RST First Edition.
“More than 200,000 miles of suitable roadways throughout the United States and Canada” are available for hands-free driving.
GM is doing all it can to compete with Tesla’s Supercharger network in terms of its charging infrastructure. EV owners can construct efficient routes even while towing using the myChevrolet app, which is available on the Silverado and Sierra models.
There is a new Linux-based software platform called Ultifi that General Motors plans to use in the future. As a result, drivers will be able to benefit from new functionality more often and more quickly in the future. Keyless entry and hands-free starting will be available to drivers as standard features.
Chevy Silverado EV in 2024: Prognosis
It’s no surprise that the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV has also joined the battle, given the recent surge of competitors in the EV truck industry. With numerous variants starting at $39,900 and going up to six figures, it seems like Chevrolet is shooting for the Ford F-150 Lightning in the market. With its WT model, Chevrolet is going out of its way to show businesses and governments that it has their interests at heart.
Ford Lightnings are slated to be delivered later this year, whereas Rivian R1Ts have already begun arriving at clients’ homes. In spring 2023 at the earliest, Ford will have a tremendous advantage in this market because of the Silverado EV.
Even so, the Silverado EV represents a significant step towards GM’s goal of an all electric fleet by 2035. Giving the Silverado, Chevrolet’s best-selling vehicle, an electric drivetrain is a vital first step in the company’s electric vehicle strategy.
